Growing Christian ministries connected to the school can bring transformation to a community. Meeting the spiritual needs of children and their families is an important part of the work of The Fundo Foundation, and establishing a church with a building on the school site and at the heart of the community will help to achieve this.
Gift Asiku, one of the trustees, gathered with the elders of the church in Fundo to speak about and pray for the plans. The diocese has appointed a Chaplain to the school. Maurice takes school prayers, teaches the Christian Faith, leads Sunday worship at the church, and supports the spiritual needs of the children. Having a multipurpose school chapel will enable and enhance this work.
It will be used by the school as both a chapel and an assembly hall and will help to ease overcrowding in the classrooms. It will be used by Fundo Church for Sunday worship and by the community for large gatherings as well as educational programs and skills workshops. This building would be at the heart of the community and have a significant impact in Fundo.
There is an Anglican minister who oversees quite a few of the churches in this district, and he visits Fundo on a rotation with the other churches. The Sunday worship in Fundo was full of life with singing and dancing and sharing the message of the gospel with passion in order to encourage and build up the believers in this place. A school chapel has the potential to transform the spiritual lives of the children, the church and the community.
Plans are underway in 2026 to make this project a reality!
