In consultation with the community elders and the school staff team, we are delighted to launch this new construction project for 2026!
This multi-use building on the school site will serve the spiritual life of the school, be a designated place for Sunday church services, and a focus for communtiy events and programs. There is currently no building like this in Fundo. It will become the heart of education, faith and community in this place.
Over-crowding in classrooms has long been a challenge for the school and with 713 children registered in 2026, this is not getting any easier. But providing additional space at the school is only a small part of the vision for this project, as having a building large enough for the whole school to gather and as a focus for the spiritual life of the children will be transformative.
Estmated total cost: £65,000 - £75,000
Funds raised so far: £35,459
If you would like to join us on this journey and donate to the project, you will be investing in a school, church and community in this remote part of Northern Uganda and your investment will have a lasting impact on the lives of the children and families for whom this is their home.

Progress update:
Initial plans and costings have been drawn up for the project. The image in the poster above is the actual proposed design for the building, with consideration given to building something that will last, that fits with the multipurpose brief, that stays cool in hot weather, and that works aesthetically in a place like Fundo. There are also options for solar panels on the roof and water tanks to collect rainwater with the current design.
Consultations have been held with the community elders and school staff and they have had input into the project, as well as the local Anglican priest and repesentatives from the Diocese of Ma'di & West Nile.
The cost is in line with a building of this type in Uganda. However, costs are rising here as in many parts of the world and consideration has been given to this, allowing a realistic contingency amount in the estimate. One unique factor for projects in Fundo is the transport costs since the village is a 2-3 hour journey from Arua on uneven dirt tracks.
Local construction workers from Fundo will be used as much as possible for this project.
Growing Christian ministries connected to the school can bring transformation to a community. Meeting the spiritual needs of children and their families is an important part of the work of The Fundo Foundation, and establishing a church building on the school site and at the heart of the community will help to achieve this.
In 2023, Gift Asiku (one of the trustees) gathered with the elders of the church in Fundo to speak about and pray for the plans. The diocese has since appointed a Chaplain to the school, who takes school prayers, teaches the Christian Faith, leads Sunday services at the church, and supports the spiritual needs of the children. Having a multipurpose school chapel will enable and enhance this work.
It will be used by the school as both a chapel and an assembly hall and will help to ease overcrowding in the classrooms. It will be used by Fundo Church for Sunday worship and by the community for large gatherings as well as educational programs and skills workshops. This building would be at the heart of the community and have a significant impact in Fundo.
There is an Anglican minister who oversees quite a few of the churches in this district, and he visits Fundo on a rotation with the other churches. The Sunday worship in Fundo is always full of life with singing and dancing and sharing the message of the gospel to build up the believers and reach out to the community. A school chapel has the potential to transform the spiritual lives of the children, the church and the community.
